Pittsburgh-Area Haunted Legends

Happy Halloween to our fellow readers! One of our favorite things about Halloween besides enjoying candy (especially from our favorite Pittsburgh-area chocolate shops) is hearing fun yet creepy ghost stories. Pittsburgh has plenty of ghost legends thanks to its long history. It is also a great place to live and some people do not ever want to leave—even after they have died! Here are a couple of the creepiest ghost legends that we’ve found!

Spooky house at nightThe Blue Lady of Woodland Hall at Chatham University

Founded in 1869, Chatham University has been the stomping grounds for many students over the years, and several have decided to stay forever. There are numerous supposed ghosts haunting the campus, but the most famous one is the Blue Lady of Woodland Hall. She reportedly has made appearances to a number of students while wearing a blue dress.

Steel Workers at the Carnegie Library of Homestead

Before this big and beautiful library was built, the Homestead Steel Strike of 1892 took place on the grounds. This strike is one of the most violent on record, and it is often said that those who meet a violent and untimely end become lost in our world. That seems to be the case with the library that now stands on those same grounds. It is rumoured that ghosts of Carnegie’s steel workers wander the library halls and have been known to rearrange or throw books.
