It is that time of year again, folks! Winter is on its way and before we know it, Pennsylvania will be covered with a blanket of sparkly snow! As pretty as it can be, snow and the lower temperatures can cause issues for you and your Toyota if you are unprepared. Here are some ways to help you get your Toyota ready for winter!

Build a Survival Kit

Sliding in a ditch can happen when we least expect it, and help may take awhile to arrive. And sitting in your vehicle for a couple of hours can feel like an eternity, especially when you are cold. But when you have a survival kit in your Toyota, you will be able to help yourself as much as you can until help arrives. We recommend that you keep the following items in your Toyota vehicle’s cargo area:

• Spare cell phone and charger
• A list of phone numbers of family, friends, and towing business that can help you
• Good set of jumper cables
• Heavy-duty rope
• Tow straps (two)
• Jack and lug wrench/tire iron
• Road flares and matches
• Knife or multi-tool pocket knife
• Window Punch
• Water
• Food (MREs, jerky, nuts, protein bars, chocolate bars, dehydrated fruits and veggies)

• Flashlights
• First aid kit
• Extra pairs of gloves
• Extra socks (several pairs)
• Extra pair of boots
• Extra clothes
• Reflective vest
• Blankets (fleece, wool, or foil hypothermia)

• Bag of sand, kitty litter, or carpet pieces (to be used for traction when stuck in snow)
• Shovel
