Checking Oil in Toyota Vehicles

Toyota vehicles have become renowned for being extremely reliable. The Japanese automaker strives to offer high quality in each model. But these vehicles need regular TLC in order to continue providing top-notch reliability. One of the easiest ways to keep your Toyota running smoothly is by checking its oil on a regular basis.

How Often Should I Check the Oil in My Toyota

Our rule of thumb is to check your Toyota’s oil at least once a month and change it every 3 months or 3,000 miles. We understand that life can get busy, but it is easier (not to mention cheaper) to check, add, and change your oil regularly rather than to let it go and risk an inconvenient and expensive repair. A great way to remind yourself to check your oil is to pick a certain day each month (such as the 17th date or the last Saturday each month) and mark it on your calendar.

Checking the oil in your Toyota is an extremely easy maintenance task. First you need to pop open your Toyota’s hood. Next, you will need to look for the oil dipstick, which will be near the oil cap. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag or a paper towel. Put the dipstick all the way back down in its compartment and pull it out again. Take a look at where the oil level is, which should be in between the F (full) and L (low). If the dipstick is streaky and difficult to read, there is a good chance that the oil level is low. Clean oil should be an amber color, so if it is dark brown or black, it is time for an oil change.
