Plenty of new and used vehicles are equipped with automatic locks that are designed to automatically unlock your doors when you shift into Park and automatically lock your doors when you start driving. Because some drivers would rather do the locking and unlocking manually, most vehicles offer a way for you to disable this feature. For instance, you can follow the following guidelines to turn off your Toyota Corolla’s automatic locking system.

5 Steps to reset your Corolla’s automatic locking system

  1. Turn off your car, close all the doors, and leave your seat belt off.
  2. Rather than starting the engine, turn the key to ON.
  3. Turn the key back one place to ACC, then turn it back to ON.
  4. When the seat belt light flashes in the dashboard, press the unlock button on the door and keep it pressed for about 5 seconds.
  5. The locks will cycle to let you know you were successful.
