How much can the Ford Ranger tow?

We’ve written extensively on the Tacoma and its capabilities before, but how much can the Ford Ranger actually handle? Turns out, regardless of trim level, the Ranger can only handle 3,500 pounds standard. Actually, this number isn’t too bad.

As you may know, the Tacoma can also tow 3,500 pounds standard. However, when you go up in trim level, like say the SR5 with a V6 engine, that towing capability grows to 6,800 pounds. Again, that comes standard on this trim level with the 4×2 configuration and without any special equipment.

In addition to that amazing towing capacity, you can add the Tow Package which comes with Trailer-Sway Control. This system can apply brake pressure to individual wheels while adjusting engine torque to ensure that you stay in control of your trailer.
