While the main holiday in July is Independence Day, we like to take the time to appreciate the smaller and more unique national holidays. One of Baierl Toyota’s favorite national holidays is National Hot Dog Day which occurs on July 21st. Piggy Bank

Location: 30 South 14th Street, South Side Pittsburgh, PA

Hours: Daily, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.

This hot dog shop is unique because it doesn’t have tables or chairs. All you need to do is walk up to the window, ring the doorbell, and one of the staff members will walk up to take your order. This shop prides itself on being a quick stop while running errands or if you just need something quick and delicious. They offer gluten-free buns and vegan “hot dogs” for those with dietary sensitivities or preferences.

Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe

Location: 1308 State Route 19, Mars, PA

Hours: Daily, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

For over 60 years, this chain restaurant has been providing American foods like burgers, hot dogs, and shakes to hungry guests. All menu items are made fresh daily and use real dairy products. Although the restaurant started in New Brighton, PA, the company now owns and licenses several locations across Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio.

Franktuary

Location: 3810 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. & Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Back in 2004, two college friends decided to start serving up hot dogs from the basement of Trinity Cathedral in Pittsburgh. After a decade of serving from the basement, they upgraded to its current Lawrenceville bar and restaurant location and the mobile truck. Franktuary has won many awards including “Best Downtown Lunch Spot” in 2008, 2009, and 2010 and also “Best Hot Dog” in 2013 and 2014.
