2020 Toyota RAV4 vs 2020 Subaru Outback

When you want the perfect crossover there are likely a few brands that come to mind. The RAV4, with its reputation, style, and features, deserves to be in every crossover conversation. You’ll see why as we compare it against the best that Subaru has to offer in the category with our 2020 Toyota RAV4 vs 2020 Subaru Outback comparison. We will look at price, cargo room, features, performance, and style to come to the right conclusion for you.

The RAV4 seats five just like the Outback and it’s also available with all-wheel drive, like the Outback. The Outback, however, is only available with AWD which means you are stuck making mpg sacrifices even if you don’t want to be. Which crossover is better: RAV4 or Outback?

The 2020 RAV4 comes out with the better price right out of the gate. You may argue whether or not it’s a fair comparison though since the Outback gives you all-wheel drive. For the RAV4 you can either bump up to the XLE trim to get more features or add AWD to the base LE trim, and you are still within a few hundred dollars of the Outback.

Under the hood, the RAV4 gives you a strong powerplant that can provide up to 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. That’s far above what’s provided by the Outback. The RAV4 has over 10% more power for less money. Clearly, we know where the Outback cut back to make those dollar differences when comparing AWD to AWD.

The Outback may look long, in fact, it is over 10 inches longer than the RAV4, but yet, the RAV4 still gives you more cargo room by a very wide margin. Again, we are talking about a 15% difference here. If you plan on carrying cargo, the RAV4 will prove to be the better companion.

When you want color options the RAV4 provides. Of course, the Outback has several boring and bland color options to choose from, but with bright colors like Blue Flame, the RAV4 will always be more striking. It also has available two-tone color options available too!
