The Planet Will Improve Thanks to Toyota/WWF Partnership!

World Wildlife Foundation and Toyota Partnership

Toyota has become a leader in the automotive industry. Not only is it the producer of some of the best-selling vehicles of all time (the fuel-efficient Corolla and Camry models), it was the first to introduce a mass-produced hybrid vehicle to the world: the Prius. These vehicles have also helped make Toyota a leader in environmental initiatives. As of July 2016, Toyota is taking the next step in improving the planet with a new five-year partnership with the World Wildlife Foundation.

Environmental Goals of the WWF/Toyota Partnership

The goals for the WWF and Toyota Partnership revolve around the theme of sustainability. The primary goal is to promote the sustainable utilization of natural resources, with a focus on natural rubber, wood, and palm oil. With the partnership, Toyota also wants to develop new ways to use existing natural resources in a more sustainable manner.

Efforts to Restore Destroyed Forests

Acres upon acres of forests are being lost every day as humans continue to demand more and more natural resources. This level of devastation has resulted in a severe drop in plant and animal populations, many of which are already endangered. Thanks to the partnership between the WWF and Toyota, efforts will be made to regrow and restore forests in Borneo, Sumatra, and the Greater Mekong Region (Southeastern Asia).

Toyota’s 2050 Environmental Challenge

Other initiatives that are planned by Toyota to reach its goal of leaving no environmental footprint by 2050 include:

• Promote and administer extensive automotive recycling
• Minimize and refine water usage during the manufacturing process
• Zero CO₂ emissions during material production and the manufacturing process
• Zero CO₂ emissions on new vehicles
• Conservation projects
