The standard engine for the 2019 Camry is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder. Not only does this engine come standard on the base L trim, but it comes standard on every other trim as well outside of your hybrid options (more on those in a minute).

The 2.5-liter powerplant is shockingly impressive. It is capable of producing 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The XSE with the 2.5-liter enjoys slightly higher power numbers with 206 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. Regardless of trim, all of this power is pushed through a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission down through the front wheels.

The LE, SE, and XLE Camry trims are all available as hybrids for 2019. You still have a 2.5-liter engine under the hood, but its power is reduced to a still impressive 176 horsepower and 163 pound-feet of torque.

However, that doesn’t mean you have reduced power. The electric motor can boast of 118 horsepower and 149 pound-feet of torque on its own. Together, they rate the horsepower of the hybrid system at 208 horsepower. The hybrid also works through a different transmission. It’s a 2-speed CVT or continuously variable transmission. All these systems working together allow the Hybrid LE to get up to 51-city mpg and 53-highway mpg.
