If you are going to go off-road, then you need AWD at the very least. What’s exciting for the RAV4 in 2019 is that all trims either come with AWD or have it as an option. That even includes the LE trim level. No matter where you are at in the RAV4 buying spectrum, you can get AWD if you want it.

The RAV4 trims that come with AWD standard and as the only option are all the Hybrid trims (LE Hybrid, XLE Hybrid, XSE Hybrid, Limited Hybrid) as well as the Adventure trim. We will talk more on that last trim in a moment.

For 2019, all RAV4 AWD models get a multi-terrain select feature that is honestly stellar. This feature adjusts engine throttle, brakes, and even torque distribution to allow for improved traction in all terrains. There are four modes in all with Normal, Snow, Rock & Dirt, and Mud & Sand. Pick your mode and let the RAV4 figure the rest out.

Believe it or not, the RAV4 has quite the ground-clearance. The Hybrid trims get 8.1 inches, but with the Adventure and even the Limited trim you get up to 8.6 inches. Regardless of trim level, you will get to enjoy a 19-degree approach angle and a 21-degree departure angle.
