The RAV4 Prime is different in a few ways. First off, Toyota is pushing the RAV4 Prime as a performance model and it can back that up to with standard AWD and a drivetrain that can produce a whopping 302 horsepower.

The secret to all that power is not actually just a heftier drivetrain. Instead it’s a hybrid, but unlike other hybrid options in the RAV4 lineup, this is a plug-in hybrid. This drivetrain enables the RAV4 Prime to earn a projected 0-60 mph time of 5.8 seconds which is insane for vehicles in this class. To put that in perspective, the small but performance-oriented Land Rover Discovery Sport recently boasted of a 0-60 mph time of 7.9 seconds.

In fact, if you have a short commute, you can travel up to 39 miles on a single charge before switching over to gasoline. The switch to gasoline happens seamlessly, so you have nothing to worry about. The RAV4 Prime handles things for you.
