History of the Toyota Supra

The Toyota Supra was first built in 1979 as a part of the Toyota Celica line of cars. Supra means to “surpass or go beyond.” Throughout the years, there were modifications made to this car until, in 1986, the Supra car was separated from the Celica line and developed into its own line of vehicles. Unfortunately, this only lasted thirteen years. In 1999, the Supra was no longer in production.

Once the Supra was no longer in production, many employees were hoping to someday bring the sports car line back into production. In 2012, this someday became a reality as talks about bringing back a sports car line began.

The engineers of the 2020 Toyota Supra engine wanted to create a unique experience for the driver. They wanted to connect you, the driver, to the sound of the engine in a new way. It was important to give off an authentic sports car sound but to make sure the sound was natural and not forced.

The new 2020 Toyota Supra has a 3-liter straight six engine twin-scroll turbocharger. It contains 335 horsepower and 365 pound-foot of torque.
